03/08/2007: "Less of me to love"

music: Mix I made for my wife
mood: Svelt

For those of you who know me, I am not what you would consider thin, skinny or any other adjective that best describes my antithesis. On January 1st my wife and I decided to start living a different type of lifestyle when it came to our eating habbits. We started doing the South Beach "diet" which technically isn't a "diet" because a diet is something that is usually done until you reach a weight goal. This is meant to change your diet altogether. It was actually designed for people with heart conditions. The food is good for your heart. A side effect (as the Cardiologist author pointed out) was a loss in body mass (aka Mr fatty became Mr. skinny). It also lowered blood pressure, cholesterol as well as strengthened people's hearts. While I do not have heart problems of any kind, I do have a couple relatives who had them (they also ate every fried food known to man and smoked several packs of cigarettes a day). So I figured I would get myself in a better shape than ROUND. I began the diet and I also jog a couple of miles every day. (In the thin air up here in the mountains, it is pretty hard for me to do long distances, but I am slowly gaining distance and speed). ANYWAY, it has been a pretty neat process and as of this morning when I stepped on the scale, I saw that I was down 33 pounds. Moral of story: I am feeling better than I have in a long time.

Way to go! Kris and I too have been doing a different "diet" (again, not really a diet but lifestyle change) plan ourselves...Weight Watchers. I've been on WW now since September and along with some TaeBo (thanks Billy Blanks) I've lost just about 50 pounds so far. I'm at about 190 now and I can't remember the last time I was below 200! I've still got a little ways to go to reach my goal, but I too feel better than I have for a long time. What's with Vicarage and people losing weight? Not a bad thing...just seems to be a common occurrence.
